If you do not have valid backups and your drives fail it may still be possible to recover most of your data. Depending on the RAID array in place a simple purchase of a drive and you can be fully functional. In this case the drive was experiencing a clicking noise caused by stuck drive heads. Once the drive heads were manually parked data was able to be recovered. If the data is especially important every precaution should be observed including use of a clean room with data recovery specialists.
